Exploring Tokyo and TeamLab Borderless 6/1-6/3
Our journey to Tokyo was filled with excitement as we anticipated exploring the vibrant city and its unique attractions. Upon arrival, we were immediately drawn to teamLab Borderless, a digital art museum that has captivated visitors with its immersive and interactive installations. Located in the new Azabudai Hills, just minutes from Tokyo Tower, the museum offers a seamless world of constantly shifting projections and vibrant visuals. The experience is designed to be a digital dream, where art responds dynamically to visitors’ movements, creating a mesmerizing and photogenic environment.
As we wandered through teamLab Borderless, we encountered a variety of thematic spaces, each offering a unique experience. From nature-inspired rooms filled with flowers and waves to futuristic galaxies and tactile environments like bubble or string light rooms, each installation was a feast for the senses. The art installations were not only visually stunning but also interactive, allowing us to engage with the art in a way that felt personal and unique. The experience was magical, suitable for all ages, and left us with a sense of wonder and inspiration
Our visit to Tokyo also included a collaboration session with the Keio University Graduate School of Media Design (KMD). Known for its innovative approach to media design and global collaborations, KMD has been at the forefront of fostering international academic and industry exchange. During our session, we had the opportunity to engage with students and faculty, discussing cutting-edge projects and exploring potential areas for collaboration. The atmosphere was one of creativity and innovation, reflecting KMD’s commitment to co-designing the future with diverse stakeholders.
One of the highlights of our collaboration with Keio University was the opportunity to explore their renowned haptics lab. The lab at Keio not only focused on academic research but also on practical applications of haptic technologies. Through collaborations like the Haptic Design Project with NTT Communication Science Laboratories, the lab explores novel methods for designing touch-based interactions and embodied media. These initiatives are part of Keio’s ongoing effort to drive innovation in embodied media technologies, making significant strides in the field of haptics and offering exciting possibilities for the future of immersive experiences.
Our time in Tokyo was not only an exploration of the city’s cultural and technological wonders but also an opportunity to engage with leading minds in media design and haptics. The experiences at teamLab Borderless and Keio University left us inspired and eager to continue exploring the intersections of art, technology, and design. As we departed, we carried with us a renewed sense of creativity and a deeper appreciation for the innovative spirit that defines Tokyo.
In conclusion, our journey to Tokyo was a remarkable blend of art, technology, and collaboration. From the mesmerizing installations at teamLab Borderless to the innovative projects at Keio University, we experienced firsthand the dynamic energy and creativity that Tokyo has to offer. These experiences not only enriched our understanding of digital art and haptic technology but also strengthened our connections with global innovators and creators.
